Go-Go’s Bassist Gives Classic Stones Song a New Take For Charity
It was during the bleak months of 2020. COVID was everywhere, and we all hunkered down for an unknown period of time, awaiting a cure, or at least some sort of ‘all clear’ to begin going about our lives.
While it took some getting used to, the COVID lockdowns didn’t stop everything, including fundraisers for charity.
Righteous Feminists
On September 17th, 2020, a show was broadcast with performances of the “sexiest songs reclaimed by righteous feminists.” The event, titled DoRe#MeToo, raised funds for the Abortion Access Front; a non profit group whose goal is to protect reproductive freedom.
Due to the circumstances involving the pandemic, the show was broadcast virtually and featured female artists performing covers of, in the words of show host Lizz Winstead, “the most senseless songs in pop music.”
The talent list included feminist luminaries such as Ambrosia Parsley, Bethany Thomas, Veruca Salt’s Nina Gordon, and many others whose contributions brought awareness to the Abortion Access Front.
G0-Go Kathy!
Among the talent was Go-Go’s bassist, Kathy Valentine (Performing as KV Ladyland), whose rendition of The Rolling Stones “Under My Thumb” was fun, funky, and provided a new perspective on what would now very much be considered a study in misogyny.
